Other Details to Note

This is a beautiful waterfront location, and it may change your attitude for ever. Below is the story behind The WIE Village ! With green building in mind, we look to reuse and re-purpose materials that are left over from building large homes to create The WIE House. The first WIE House location is in an environmentally critical area, The Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina. This concept is not unique to the OBX, as we would like to see it grow to any location where there are leftover materials on the job-site. Whether it be a remodel job or new construction, the benefits to this project are the use of leftover building materials, resulting in less forest destruction, filling of landfills, all while cutting expenses for all involved! The WIE House is small in physical size, but big in quality of living. The WIE House is built to be as maintenance-free, and as energy-efficient as possible; including environmentally friendly items such as, metal roofs, rain water wine barrels to water landscaping, passive solar energy to maintain all exterior lighting, and all permeable walkways to prevent runoff to name a few! A walkway will wind you up to the house that sits atop a hill and because lot clearing is kept to a minimum no driving of vehicles allowed on the lot. Another goal of The WIE House concept is for local municipalities to get on board and see the value of higher density houses on property as opposed to the single Mega-Home! The first WIE House was built on a lot owned by Jim Douglas on the Roanoke Sound, bordering the Kitty Hawk Maritime Forest! Jim Douglas, The WIE House Founder

We had a great time and the space was exactly what we needed for a little getaway! It was so cozy to come back to after a day out exploring and the view from the balcony was great too. The place is tucked back from the road and is surrounded by nature, which was so nice. All the linens and the bed were so soft and complimented the atmosphere perfectly. Communication was excellent and any questions we asked were answered very quickly, we had no problems checking in or out, and there were a lot of details sent about our stay before we got there. We would definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful stay here. The host was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had. They give lots of recommendations and safety tips for Outer Banks in general, like driving tips and walking on the main stretch of roads. We felt very safe at our tiny house, seemed like a great little neighborhood. We were on the very end of a dead end street and really liked that. Will definitely stay here again if we come back to OBX.

Jim's place was one of the best Airbnb's ive ever stayed in, and i stay in Airbnb's a lot. Gia was the host and she was thorough and friendly and clear in her communications, plus very responsive. She made checkin very easy with clear and easy instructions. She even made the space ready before normal check in time. The space was beautiful and serene inside and out. Sunsets over the Sound were gorgeous and relaxing. And I love the decor and re-purposed materials they used in the space. Plus the space was very clean and the bathroom and kitchen were wonderful and beautiful as well. I highly recommend Jim's Airbnb, for the space and the outdoor surroundings as well as the local restaurants and activities that are available. Its also very close to the beach and there is plenty of beach access. The hosts were very helpful in providing recommendations on activities and places to go and to eat as well. I cant wait to come back down to the Outer Banks and stay at Jim's place again.

This is a lovely, quaint place to relax and unwind from everyday life. The nature and views are stunning and abundant. Coming from the mountains, we appreciated the various outdoor activities available. The diverse plant life to enjoy was remarkable, and we always found it thrilling to be welcomed by beautiful dragonflies after each outing. We greatly appreciated Gia's communication before, during, and after our stay. She was a fantastic host who helped us navigate Kitty Hawk, ensuring we were well-started on our adventures and encouraging us to explore and appreciate all the beauty the area has to offer. We highly recommend this location if you're looking for a more remote place to stay that is still close enough to engage with the local crowd.
